Lady Raiders Win!

The Lady Raiders played their last regular season game on their home court against the Sawyer Flashes. It was Parent’s Night with all the players, statisticians, and coaches being recognized. Special recognition was given to the Senior participants: Brittany Bender and Kaitlyn Volochenko. The Lady Raiders won 55 to 43. Best of luck at Districts beginning on Friday at Towner.

Pinochle Tourney

Want to do something different? Saturday, February 25th is the first week of a Pinochle Tournament. Pinochle will be played at 2pm every Saturday for 8 weeks at the Anamoose Fire Hall. Each week you have a chance to win a $20 first place prize or $10 second place. For non-competitive tables you can win a $5 first prize each week.

If you attend 5 or more sessions you have a chance to win the first place of $100 or $50 second place.

Soup or chili, breads and bars will be served at 5:30pm.

Cost is $10 for pinochle and supper, or $5 for supper only.

Lady Raiders lose on the Road

The Lady Raiders girls basketball team travelled to Turtle Lake on Friday where they took on the Turtle Lake – Mercer – McClusky Trojans. The Lady Raiders led 20 to 7 at the end of the first quarter, but weren’t able to maintain their lead. They lost the non-district contest 57 to 76. The Lady Raiders last regular season game will be played on Tuesday February 21st against Sawyer at the Drake-Anamoose High School gym. There will be parent’s night at 5:45 and a varsity game at 6:00. District tournament begins Friday at Towner.

Lady Raiders lose to Troopers

The Drake-Anamoose Lady Raiders girls basketball team played a non-district game against the Garrison Troopers on February 14th. Scoring for the lady Raiders were Chessa Baumgardner 19 pts., Rachel Handeland 9 pts., Amber Windish 6 pts., Angel Kaisler and Heather Lemer with 4 pts. each, and Kristin Reinowski with 2 pts. Gracee Buri and Kailey Lemer also played.

Valentine’s Day Cake Walk

The Drake / Anamoose Sports Boosters Club held a cake walk after the girls basketball game on Valentine’s Day. A total of 18 cakes were donated and $175 was raised.

Lady Raiders Squeak Past Sioux

The Lady Raiders girls basketball team narrowly beat the Westhope-Newburg Sioux in a District 11 contest on February 7th at Drake. The Lady Raiders trailed the entire game until Heather Lemer swished a three point shot late in the fourth quarter to pull the Lady Raiders ahead 61 to 60 which was the final score.

The Anamoose population increased this winter with the birth of 2 boys in the northwest corner of Anamoose.

Anni andErnie Lageson had baby Blake on November 11th. They also have a 2 1/2 year old boy Brady.

Baby Everett was born December 22nd to Rachel and Scott Spear. They have two other children-Emma, 5 years, and Lydia, 3 years.

Now the rest of Anamoose has to keep up—–maybe a few girls!

It’s in the Eyes

Hey, what do you think of the 3 new Anamoose signs? Hopefully many of you have seen them coming into Anamoose from the east, south and north.

The idea for the signs originated with the Anamoose Civic Club who had Midwest Graphics from Martin design them. The east and south signs are 4ft. by 16 ft, and the north sign is 3 ft. by 12 ft. The Minot Magic Fund gave $1520 and the McHenry County Job Development Authority gave $760 to help pay for the signs.

Also credit goes to the Stenehjems, Jerome Peerbooms, and Kenny Rudnick families for allowing the signs to be put on their property.

Anamoose is Growing!

January 17th Ted and Tammy Mertz moved a house onto a new wood basement on the former Lydia Herman lot in the northwest corner of Anamoose. The house came from Minnewauken where houses are being move out due to flooding from Devils Lake. Tammy Mertz told me they hope to have the house for sale by the end of February.

The Mertz’s own their own construction company, TM Construction, so are doing the remodeling on the house. A single car garage is being made into a living room and kitchen, and the dining room is being enlarged. There is one bedroom and bath and an unfinished basement.

If that isn’t enough work for Ted and Tammy they also have gutted the former Rudy Wohl house in southeast Anamoose. They plan to move in by fall.

It’s great to see these improvements in Anamoose!
