Beautiful is the only work to describe the flowers at Schmaltz’s Greenhouse. Last evening Mike Schmaltz gave my homemakers a tour of his 7 greenhouses. One house was about 95% geraniums.
Mike could rattle off the names of new & old flower types-like a new “Cherry Red” Calabrachoa, a Mandibila that has large flowers, a new red dahlia called XXL, Super Bells new color “Lemon Slice”, Duvet Petunias with compact large flowers, ornamental corn, “Candy Cane” Verbena, (pictured above) & 5 ft tall “King Tut” & “Prince” grass.
There are 3 full time employees beside Mike-Monica Schmidt, Tori Dosch & Brittney Schmaltz. Rachael Rott will also be working there after college is out. Just to keep the plants watered is quite a chore even though Mike has an automatic dripper system for his hanging pots.
I saw many new colorful & unusual pots like the shoe pot.
Mike cut the side out of a large clay pot. He added succulents & little fairy houses to make attractive arrangements.
The Greenhouse should be open about May 1st-weather permitting!
