I found a new sign of spring. My neighbor, Jim Bartsch, just told me that he shaves off his bushy beard every April. He has been doing this for about 40 years. He has been my neighbor for 9 years, but this is the first I realized this was a yearly ritual.
Tulips, of course, are a well-known sign of spring. This picture was taken in Barb Martin’s back yard.
And, of course, getting our lawns back in shape is a yearly chore. Bonnie Helm has hired P&P Lawn Care which consists of William (Scott) Piper & his niece Kristen. Scott does the cutting & Kristen does the trimming, weeding & flower beds. Call 701-850-4217 if you would like help with your lawn or flower beds.
Graduation is another spring event. Today 11 students graduated at Drake. Derek Fahy, Valedictorian, stated it has been 4 years since Anamoose & Drake schools combined. The picture of Derek at his Open House at the Anamoose Senior Center shows his many awards.
I was amazed at the scholarships the 10 students going on th college received. Derek received scholarships from Knights of Columbus-$500, Anamoose VFW-$500, Drake Dollars for Scholars-$500, ND academic Scholarship-$1500 per year up to 4 years, plus a $10,000 scholarship from NDSU. The Drake Dollars for Scholars gave out $13,400 to the students.
The next thing will be Signs of Summer. Can’t wait for warmer weather!
