Light Up The Town

Tis the Season to make merry and that’s christmas tree in parkwhat kids of all ages did in Anamoose Sunday the 6th. Everyone gathered in the City Park around a beautiful Christmas tree waiting for the official lighting. The City Park was again filled with the sounds of the season, children and adults all waiting for the lights to go on and for the tree to be beautifully dressed for Christmas.

Earlier in the week, Wednesday, December 2nd the elementary kids were given a hayride to the park from their classrooms at school so they could add their special touch to decorating the tree. The tree was donated by a generous benefactor who wishes to remain anonymous. The kids always do a great job decorating the tree with ornaments they have made. This year ornaments were also sold to the public to personalize and hang on the tree. Lawrence Bartz and his son, Mark were on hand to provide hayrides to everyone wanting to see the lighted homes around town.  The Park Board Team does a wonderful job of engaging and including everyone in all the fun.

In November, homeowners were invited to participate in a holiday lighting contest, and on December 6th the homes were judged by non-resident judges and winners were announced at the Soup ‘n’ Sandwich supper following the festivities in the park.

There was hot coffee and tea to warm up and lemonade for those of different taste. Santa was there for pictures and Christmas wishes.

The team of judges sent out to determine the lighting contest winners returned with their results: 1st Place – Ted & Tammy Mertz, 2nd Place – Joe & Rose Weninger, 3rd Place – Jason Mann & Kim Meckle. There was also a raffle for a decorative snowman table topper, winner – Nancy Bartz.

As Kim Meckle, Park Board member, stepped to the mike to thank all that came to enjoy the fun, she also announced a new Park Board member, Theresa Hoke.  Welcome aboard!

All and all it was a good time in Anamoose Saturday night!

Thank You Park Board Team!
